Ohio’s Country Journal: Spring Planting and the Work of USB

Ohio’s Country Journal’s “Ohio Field Leader Podcast” featured Steve Reinhard, USB Vice Chair, with details on the 2023 planting season, as well as work the soy checkoff is conducting to benefit farmers in Ohio and across the nation.

Reinhard mentions many checkoff initiatives and highlights Farmers for Soil Health, the partnership between USB, National Corn Growers Association and National Pork Board. This partnership works toward sustainable practices and provides resources to farmers who have the ability to use sustainable practices in their operation.

He goes on to discuss more about the soy checkoff’s return on investment and how funds are being used to benefit all American farmers.

“For every dollar we invest in the checkoff, we are getting $12.34 back in return. One of the biggest examples of that could be the dredging of the Mississippi River so you have less congestion at the ports in the Gulf in order to get the ships in and out efficiently. This has been a huge win for the American farmer to be able to get those beans out to the gulf faster, and what a critical time for that to have been done, as last fall we had record-low water levels in the Mississippi River.”
